UTStarcom Receives License to Produce Mobile Handsets in China
July 08, 2005
According to a report in the Beijing Times, UTStarcom has won a license from the NDRC (National Development and Reform Commission) to produce and sell GSM and CDMA mobile telephones in China. Until now the company has been producing mobile handsets in China through a licensing agreement with Beijing-based CEC Telecom, which was signed in January 2005. UTStarcom is the fifth company to win a license from the NDRC since it implemented new rules in February 2005, which make mobile handset production licenses more accessible to telecoms.
